Proximity still rules the map pack
Local map results weight distance between business and searcher heavily. A single address near the airport will not appear for map searches in Fishers no matter how strong the site is.
The workable strategies are to dominate the radius you have, add legitimate locations if the business genuinely supports them, and win organic results for suburb searches where proximity matters less.
Township and school district language is a real signal
People here describe where they live by township, school district, and suburb constantly, especially in property and family related categories. Those phrases appear in search behavior and almost never in local business content.
Using them accurately, where they are genuinely relevant to the service, wins searches nobody else has thought to target.
The suburb wins compound into the city term
Twenty pages that each rank for a specific community build the topical depth and the link profile that eventually make the city phrase reachable.
Starting at the city phrase gives you nothing to show for the first year. Starting at the suburbs produces work in the first quarter and gets you there anyway.
